Favorite Toys for One Year Olds

A friend of mine recently asked me for advice on what to get for a baby’s first birthday. This sweet friend just recently married and doesn’t yet have kids but she loves on many kids in her life around her and she will be attending a close friend’s baby girl’s first birthday soon. So in honor of her request I decided to come up with a list of my favorite toys for both of my littles at or around one year old. You can find all sorts of recommendations for this age online but here is a list of our favorites. Personally, as a parent, I prefer open-ended toys, toys…

4 Tips For Introducing Solid Foods

With both our littles, each new milestone is exciting but beginning solid foods was certainly near the top of the list. Maybe it is the adorable faces babies make or the curiosity of what foods they will prefer but either way we were excited for this next step. When Did We Start Solids Though we were very excited, we chose to follow the recommended guidelines of waiting until at least 6 months old before introducing solid foods. Along with the 6 month time frame, we also waited until they seemed interested in food and could sit upright unassisted. I strongly encourage all parents to work with their children’s healthcare providers…

    Asher Toddler Update

It has been far too long since I have given an update on or dedicated a post to where Asher is these days so I thought it was time to share some info on toddler Asher. Asher is coming up on 2 1/2 this October. He is just over 30 pounds and who knows how long but it is certainly long. His feet are now hitting my knees when I hold him. He is still long and lean and could still fit into his 18 month clothes if it wasn’t for his length. He is mostly wearing 2T and some 3T clothes (thank God for the whomever invented the toddler…

    Emotional Mess Over Here

It’s nearing midnight and I am laying awake in bed while little E sleeps soundly next to me, her tiny rapid breaths reminding me I should be sleeping because she will be awake soon to eat. She had her 4 month check-up today and it is still so crazy to me that she is 4 months old!? Heck, it’s even crazier that Asher is almost 2 1/2! Between buying a house, selling a house, and managing the existence of our little family so much time seems to have passed without me really noticing. We closed on our new house this afternoon and we will close on our current home later…

    Ellery: 4 months

Our little lady is FOUR months old! This month has been one of the most fun so far. She is really starting to show her personality and it has been awesome watching her blossom. She is quite the diva and gets frustrated when things aren’t exactly as she would like. She is also so very sweet and loves to get attention. Any time you talk to her or mention how cute she is, she smiles really big and scrunches up her little face.  Age: 4 months Weight: 12 lbs 6.4oz Diapers/clothes: Cloth diapers and 3 months clothes for the most part. She is pretty long so she has outgrown all her 3…

    My Motherhood Journey: Lessons Learned

I can’t believe in just a few short months I will be a mama to two littles. With the upcoming change (and perhaps a touch of pregnancy hormones making me emotional) I have been reflecting on what I have learned over the last two years. Two years seems so recent and yet when I look back on the new-to-motherhood woman I was, it seems like a lifetime ago. The biggest, and probably the toughest realization over the last two years is that being a mom is hard. There is no easy way to say it. It is simultaneously the most amazing, wonderful thing you will do in your life and…

    Bumpdate: 7 Months

Decided to include the little munchkin in the picture. Also ignore the sloppiness of the wrap job, we are out of practice and he wiggles.  How Far Along: 7 months! Say what!?Feeling Physically: I am feeling huge! Even though I feel like a walking whale though, I still feel pretty good physically! I am feeling pretty energetic and that has been useful considering the toddler I have to chase around. The hip/sacrum pain has subsided for the most part. I have done some research and learned it is likely a combination of how little lady is positioned and good ol’ hormones and since it isn’t a daily thing anymore I…

    Sucky Days Really Suck

Some days are great, wonderful, the best ever in fact. Your house is spotless, dinner is on the stove, and your tiny tot is thoroughly enjoying the educational, yet fun DIY craft you put together. Your outfit is on point and you are feeling like super woman. Jumping on bubble wrap = lazy entertainment! And then there are other days that start at 3 a.m. because you’re six and a half months pregnant and occasionally plagued with insomnia that manifests into over-analyzing every parenting decision you have ever made in regards to your nearly two year old who is sleeping peacefully just a few feet away. You know you should…

Little Lad or Little Lady: Round 2

When I was pregnant with Asher I knew I wanted to do a gender reveal party to share the fun news with all our friends, but this time around we didn’t find out what we were having until early January and with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays I just wasn’t up to hosting another party so we set out to do our reveal just a little differently.  Just for fun here are the results of a few old wives tales: With this pregnancy I have experienced more morning sickness, tiredness, very dry skin, and crazy mood swings. Because this pregnancy has been so much different than my pregnancy with…

    Bumpdate: 4 months

If you haven’t yet had the chance please read months 2 and 3 which were posted yesterday in a desperate attempt to finally catch up. Today I am 17 weeks, but it’s close enough to the 4 month mark, right? How Far Along: 4 monthsFeeling Physically: Great! Nausea is gone and I am finally sleeping better!Feeling Mentally: Good as well. Now that everyone knows I can finally talk about it. Maternity Clothes: I had to break out the ol’ maternity clothes. Sadly though they are too big so it looks like I will either be in yoga pants forever (I wish) or I am going to be doing some shopping soon.Sleep: I…
